In a world where social media and technology often get a bad rap, it can be easy to view them as distractions or negativity generators. But the truth is, technology, when used intentionally, can also be an incredible tool to deepen your relationship with Jesus. With a few mindful tweaks, we can transform our tech habits into spiritual habits that help us grow in faith! One of the best parts is that all of the things we are about to talk about are 100% FREE! So Let's get started!
Ridding Yourself of Negativity and Distractions
The first step to using technology in a positive way is to rid yourself of the things that don’t serve you well. Social media can be a breeding ground for comparison, jealousy, and feelings of inadequacy. The good news? You’re in control of your feed. Don’t be afraid to unfollow accounts that make you feel inferior or cause you to compare your life to others. If there are family or friends you don’t want to unfollow completely, remember you have the option to hide their posts. This allows you to protect your mental and spiritual well-being without straining relationships.
In the same way, consider the emails you subscribe to. If your inbox is flooded with store promotions that tempt you to spend money on things you don’t need, unsubscribe! Replace those distractions with things that lift your spirit and draw you closer to God. (Hint: You can always subscribe to my blog for a steady stream of encouragement and practical ways to grow your faith! 😉)
Delete those apps! When was the last time you went through the apps on your phone? Do you get sucked into games or social apps that lead you to feeling unproductive and maybe even further from God? Delete them! I go through spurts where at least once a year I delete Amazon from my phone for a few months. I've also done this for social media apps. It doesn't have to be forever- but sometimes a little break is nice!
4 Social Media Accounts You Should Follow
Now that we've cleaned OUT the negativity- let's add some accounts that will bring some positivity to your feed! I could recommend TONS of accounts, but here are my top 4!
Josh Morgan- A great account for Bible Study and Prayer Tips!
Fleurdelisspeaks- Although not a Christian account per-say, she has fantastic daily affirmations!
Lisa Harper- If you don't know Lisa yet, run to instagram and give her a follow! She is so so good!!
...ok... so the 4th is me! I have so many accounts that I love! Head over to Instagram and follow me! Then look at the accounts I'm following to find more uplifting things to fill your feed with! Love God and Others- I'm on all of the socials, but my Instagram is linked here!
Websites and Apps to Strengthen Your Faith
Here are some of my favorite apps and websites—each offering valuable insights, tools, and encouragement for your faith journey. The best part? All of them have free versions, and even if they offer a paid option, you’ll get plenty of value with just the free access.
YouVersion Bible App This app gives you access to hundreds of Bible translations, daily devotionals, and reading plans. You can highlight, take notes, and share scriptures with friends—making it a great tool for personal study or group discussion. I LOVE having the Bible with me everywhere I go AND being able to look things up in different translations/versions is so helpful!
GotQuestions.org Have tough questions about faith or the Bible? This website is a huge resource for answering any biblical or theological questions you might have. They provide biblically grounded explanations on just about any topic!
BlueLetterBible.org A fantastic tool for in-depth Bible study. It offers access to commentaries, concordances, and original language resources that allow you to dive deeper into Scripture.
RightNow Media Think of this as the "Netflix of Bible studies." It’s packed with thousands of video resources for individuals, families, and small groups. While it offers a paid subscription, you can often access it for free through many churches or organizations.
Bible Recap Actually a great website AND app- the Bible Recap offers a podcast and reading plan to guide you through the Bible in a year. The app helps you understand the context and significance of each day’s reading, making Bible study less intimidating and more approachable.
First 5 Designed by Proverbs 31 Ministries, the First 5 app encourages you to give the first five minutes of your day to God. It offers daily devotionals that dig deep into Scripture in a way that’s easy to understand and apply to life. I love that you can set this one like an alarm where the chime goes off in the morning and the app opens to your devotional! No more waking up and scrolling social media first thing!
Bible Chat A pretty cool AI tool where you can ask questions about the Bible and have a back and forth conversation.
The Daily Grace Co. Known for their beautiful Bible study tools, journals, and devotionals, The Daily Grace Co. offers both physical and digital resources to deepen your walk with God. They have a free app where you can access devotionals and Bible studies.
Use Technology to Create a Worship Playlist
One of the easiest ways to use technology to deepen your relationship with Jesus is by incorporating worship music into your day. Music has a way of drawing us closer to God, shifting our perspective, and reminding us of His goodness—no matter what we’re facing. I have a whole post on worship music!- Check it out!
I personally love creating worship playlists on platforms like YouTube. You can build a playlist filled with your favorite songs that speak to your heart and help you stay focused on God throughout the day. Whether you’re driving, doing housework, or just spending quiet time with the Lord, having a go-to worship playlist makes it easy to enter a posture of worship. [My worship playlist can be found here!]- What I love about this is that you can easily open it on a browser at the office and have it playing in the background while you work! ...And it's FREE!
Final Thoughts
At the end of the day, technology is just a tool—it’s how we use it that determines its impact on our lives. By intentionally curating your digital habits, you can create a space online that helps you grow in faith, encourages positive connections, and leaves you feeling uplifted rather than drained. Take control of your tech and use it to bring you closer to the One who matters most.
